Life here in Cleveland can be pretty hunky-dory… until winter hits and local drivers get kind of crazy. Traffic jams, stop-and-go commutes, and unplowed suburban streets are seasonal norms here. Much of Cleveland is (fortunately for locals) just north of the snow belt… but Cleveland’s suburbs aren’t so lucky, and many are battered by snow year after year. However, wintertime isn’t the issue. It’s us. No, seriously! Local drivers are among the worst in the nation. Find out why driving in Ohio is so dangerous:
Quote Wizard is an online insurance comparison platform, and they recently released their analysis of Ohio drivers.
If you've ever found yourself cursing other drivers on the road, you're sure to agree with the results they found when comparing over 100,000 insurance quotes.
As it turns out, Ohio is the eighth-worst state when it comes to reckless driving. If our drivers were to be given a letter grade, Quote Wizard would give us a D-.
This, of course, is actually fairly comparable to the national average. In fact, our infrastructure is in a pretty good place. Quote Wizard does warn, however, that lack of funding for highway repairs could start to take a toll.
While new drivers understandably account for the majority of Ohio's incidents, people in their 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s each account for comparable percentages of incidents. So, long story short, we make mistakes when we're young and don't really learn from them as we age. Oops.
The scientific method reminds us that results should be replicated before being considered accurate, and the results mentioned above are reinforced by other studies.
We didn't rank on the list of the best either, but hey... we'll take it. Some nearby cities that ranked for the worst drivers include Painesville, Elyria, and Bedford. Nearby Euclid was ranked among the safest driving cities in Ohio.
So there you have it. If you’re a decent driver and find yourself getting frustrated by Ohioans’ driving habits, it truly is not in your head. What’s the craziest driving experience you have encountered over the years? Share your thoughts in the comments!
