If you’ve never strolled around Wade Lagoon in the spring, you are in for a treat this year. Wade Park, which encompasses a lovely lagoon and is nestled up against the Cleveland Museum of Art, first underwent development to become a park in 1872. Its owner, Jeptha Wade, was a Cleveland industrialist who would go on to donate the property to the city a decade later. Nowadays, Wade Park in University Circle is one of the city’s most cherished parks… and, of course, it’s arguably the best place to see cherry blossom blooms in Cleveland. Grab your camera! This is one vibrant event you won’t want to miss. (After all, if you miss this year’s bloom, you’ll have to wait until next year to see it again!)

Cleveland In Spring

What are some things to do in Cleveland in spring?
Cleveland is a vibrant city that wakes up in the spring after a long cold winter. When the weather warms up we love to get outside and enjoy some of the natural parks of the city. Here are a few things to do in Cleveland in spring that we think you'll enjoy:

  • Daffodil Hill: There is a very special place in the Lake View Cemetery called Daffodil Hill. The cemetery has a rich history that dates back to 1869. It may seem strange to us these days to hang out in a cemetery, but in the 19th Century, it was common practice to enjoy the tranquil beauty of a cemetery for an afternoon picnic. There is no better place to enjoy some quiet time than Daffodil Hill with its 100,000 blooming yellow and white landscape of flowers.
  • Hike to Chair Factory Falls: This beautiful waterfall hike is even better in the spring when snow melts making the falls even more dramatic. You'll find Chair Factory Falls after walking a short trail from a parking lot off Ravenna Road just past the Concord-Hambden Road intersection. The site of the falls used to be a chair factory before it burned down a bit before 1900. When spring wildflowers start to bloom and the falls are rushing, it is a beautiful area to explore.
  • Brecksville Reservation salamander migration: A unique thing to do in early spring in Cleveland is to witness the salamander migration. Throughout Cleveland's Metroparks and particularly the Brecksville Reservation, you might be able to spot around 25 species of salamanders as they seek their ancestral breeding pools. On March nights when the temperatures rise above 45 degrees, you have a chance to spot these fascinating lizards on Valley Parkway between Deer Lick Cave and Chippewa Creek Drive. After laying thousands of eggs they retreat into hiding once again.
