The Cleveland Metroparks and the Cuyahoga Valley National Park are well-known waterfall hotspots, but nearby Lorain County Metro Parks hide a few beauties, too. In fact, one of the loveliest hikes in the Lorain County district connects two lovely waterfalls via one trail. When it comes to truly wonderful hiking trails in Cleveland, it’s pretty hard to beat the most epic hiking trails of them all: the hiking trails with waterfalls. Of course, there are several to pick from (Ohio is really just that amazing), but we do have a couple of favorites to mention first and foremost. We love the Buttermilk Falls Trail at North Chagrin Reservation. It’s just under a mile long (0.8 miles), but don’t let the ease of it fool you. It’s a short hike to a truly breathtaking waterfall in Ohio. Of course, if you keep reading, you’ll get even more ideas. As it turns out, waterfalls in Cleveland are quite the hidden gem!

One of our favorite scenic hikes in Cleveland is the breathtaking Glens Trail, at Gorge Metro Park. It’s about 40 minutes from the city, but it’s intensely beautiful and truly amazing. There are a lot of reasons why it’s so beloved among locals! Be sure to also check out the Eagle View, Shoreline, Bluff, and Lakeview Loop Trail, which weaves along Lake Erie and is located just under 40 minutes away from downtown Cleveland. Though an exact number in terms of waterfalls around Cleveland is hard to determine, there are more than 30 known and named waterfalls in Ohio and, considering it’s not the most enormous state in the country, at least a decent handful of those are located in or nearby Cleveland. For example, check out the tallest waterfall in Ohio: Brandywine Falls, which is inside Cuyahoga Valley National Park, is 65 feet high and seems to be made of pure splendor. While you’re there, check out Blue Hen Falls, too! It’s easy to access and is considered one of the most beautiful hikes in Cleveland.
