Once upon a time, crowds flooded this beautiful beach in Cleveland when it was a part of Euclid Beach Amusement Park. Today, it continues to entertain guests, but its landscape is much more natural than it formerly was. The gorgeous Euclid Creek Reservation features a stunning 900-foot shoreline where visitors can swim, but the site is not monitored, so you'll want to bring a buddy during your visit.

Here, remnants of Euclid Creek Reservation's former life as Euclid Beach Amusement Park are still visible. It is also one of the most picturesque beaches in Ohio.

Just south of Cleveland in the Greater Akron area is a charming little swim area with roots that go back to the Civil War. This lake is situated on what was once the Harter Dairy Farm, surrounded by former coal mines. While you can get a glimpse into the past at this pretty place, you can also soak up some sun in a 50-acre lake. The lake is fed by a spring from a former mine, so you're sure to experience history in a truly unique way at this pretty park.

What are some fun things to do in the summer near Cleveland?

Summer is a great time to be in Cleveland, even though there are days that are sweltering. But there are so many indoor and outdoor attractions that it’s easy to find something fun to do. For a great indoor attraction, head on over to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. You could literally spend hours here enjoying the unbelievable collection of music memorabilia, interactive exhibits, iconic photographs, and more. Outdoors, try the Cleveland Botanical Garden. The butterfly house, spacious gardens, and beautiful setting attract residents and visitors alike year-round.

How do I get to Headlands Beach?

Getting to Headlands Beach, located in Headlands Beach State Park, is easy. If you’re coming from Cleveland take Interstate 90 north for about 30 minutes until you see the turn-off signs. From Akron, you go straight north for about an hour via Interstate 271. If coming from Sandusky, take Highway 2 east until it merges with Interstate 90, and you’ll be there in about an hour and a half. No matter where you’re coming from, you’ll find that the mile-long natural sand beach there is beautiful, with picturesque views for miles across Lake Erie.

One of the more unusual ones is called The Feline Historical Museum. Located in Alliance, about an hour and 15 minutes south of downtown Cleveland, it is the home of the world’s largest registry of pedigreed cats. The design of the building is unique as well, as it is a former bank building. And if you are interested in learning more about cats, be sure to spend some time in the little library here. It features several hundred books about cats, cat shows, and the like. Even if felines aren’t your thing, the museum is fascinating and makes for a great adventure.
