This historic home has a unique history. Upon its construction in 1867, some hailed it as the grandest home in Painesville. The Steele family imported Italian marble, French windows, and more to bring the home to life. As you can see, the home caught fire in 2001 and was left exposed to the elements.
Following the fire and neglect, this once-gorgeous structure fell into serious disrepair.

The remnants were nearly lost to the sands of time. Very little remained of the structure following its dilapidation... and so its demolition was ordered for March of 2011.
However, it was purchased in December of 2010 - just months before its scheduled demolition - and was lovingly restored.

After reinforcing the structure and removing oodles of debris, Steel Mansion's new owners were able to restore the gorgeous old building to its former glory.

Many objects found during renovation dated back to the building's construction. Other surprise finds may have been left by the Steele family themselves, or perhaps by staff and students of Lake Erie College. The building is located just across the street from campus and the school owned it for many years.

Today, all sorts of historical artifacts can be spotted in this gorgeous structure. Throughout its 16 luxurious rooms and meeting center are fascinating decorations and quirky additions to the atmosphere.
Of course, the old mansion operates as an inn and meeting center that visitors can enjoy to this very day.
