Cleveland’s oldest churches, like St. John’s Episcopal, have a charm that’s impressed locals for over a century. Today, we’re going to visit a spectacular cathedral over in Parma that’s much newer but every bit as lovely. Take a look:
St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral is one of the younger religious structures in Greater Cleveland.
Cleveland has some remarkably old churches, but St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral demonstrates that modern construction can be just as heavenly. Its parish came to be in 1959, but this cathedral would not come to be for a few more decades.

The groundbreaking began on the building in 1982 and was completed in 1985.
The building was planned by local architects as a fusion of the past and the future, to celebrate the longevity of Christianity as well as its upcoming 1,000 year anniversary in Ukraine. As a result, onion domes and iconostasis adorn a sturdy building of modern brick.

Once the building was completed, locals were instantly charmed by its heavenly atmosphere.
The cathedral effortlessly emulates the European tradition of interior decoration. From floor to ceiling, spectacular religious paintings impress visitors and also tell a story.
When the aluminum domes faded to a shade of jade green, they were painted gold in the 1990s. Eventually, as they deteriorated, the domes were replaced altogether in 2015.
In addition to religious ceremonies and breathtaking architecture, this cathedral also helps the community carry on tradition.
In addition to English services, Ukranian liturgies are offered as well. Additionally, events like the Ukranian Festival keep culture alive and well in Greater Cleveland.
