Scenic overlooks, hemlock forests, rivers, and ledges adorn the area like jewels, beckoning to adventure seekers. Everyone knows, however, that the real diamonds in this emerald necklace are local waterfalls.
Leroy Township, at nearly 26 square miles, is a natural paradise.
This area first came to public attention in 1818 when Colonel Hendrick Pain built a cabin on the valley's terrace. The area became known as Paine's Hollow.

Paine Falls Park is coveted by locals for its 377 acres of surprises.
The Paine family established industry in this valley. As the need for water power declined, it was gradually abandoned. Nature reclaimed the area, fortunately, and it's now a haven for critters big and small.

This park was acquired by the Lake Metroparks in 1974, and locals have adored its enchanting waterfall ever since.
This tiered 25-foot tall waterfall is a visual enchantment all year round. It is located in a rural landscape, a true escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The picnic areas in this park are perfectly placed. Whether you crave sun or shade, there's a table in the perfect spot for you to unwind and reconvene with nature.
The waterfall overlook, you'll be pleased to learn, is close enough to the parking lot for a quick and easy trek.
This landscape almost looks like a set from a Hollywood fairy tale film. It's too perfect to believe, and it is mind-blowing to consider how close it is to home.
