Northeast Ohio is a fascinating landscape all year round. From January through December, there are festivals, events, and unique attractions in Cleveland that beckon to locals and visitors alike. From outdoor activities to indoor museums, there’s much to see… so much, in fact, that you could fill up an entire year with splendid day trips and still have a bucket list to tackle! This year, don’t pass up your opportunity to check out these awesome attractions:
January: Ice Skating in Public Square
In the colder months, Public Square is transformed into a winter wonderland with the addition of an ice skating rink.
Tickets can be purchased to include ice skate rentals, or you can bring your own along and enjoy a bit of a discounted admission. The ice rink is beautiful and offers gorgeous views of Downtown Cleveland's vibrant heart.
February: Cleveland Kurentovanje
These monsters may look rather fearsome... and that's exactly what they aim for. The Kurents are a critter from Slovenian mythology that scares off winter, allowing spring to enter the region. The
annual Cleveland celebration is a riot, and it's one every Clevelander should experience.
March: Lake View Cemetery
As springtime begins, whether March comes in like a lion or a lamb,
Lake View Cemetery is breathtaking. Its Victorian garden-style design is a treat, but Daffodil Hill is one of its most incredible features. Daffodils begin to poke through the earth in late March, so you owe yourself a trip to this cemetery for an unrivaled opportunity to witness 100,000 green sprouts poking from an otherwise sleepy and brown ground.
April: University Circle's Fine Arts Garden
April showers may bring May flowers, but the month has its own noteworthy blooms in University Circle. The neighborhood's spectacular
Fine Arts Garden is a mishmash of manmade art and natural beauty, and it is positively resplendent in the springtime.
May: Brookside Reservation's Blossom Lane
Cherry blossoms only last for a small window of time, so you'll want to time this trip as perfectly as possible. The first week of May is typically a dreamy time to visit Blossom Lane, a stretch of more than 100 Yoshino cherry trees donated by the Japanese Association of Northeast Ohio. You'll adore a stroll through one of Cleveland's oldest neighborhood parks as its magnificent landscape bursts into bloom.
June: Edgewater Park Beach
June is a real treat for Clevelanders. This month brings us summertime, and it also offers endless sunshine to fuel outdoor fun. One of the best places to visit is Edgewater Park Beach. Whether or not you choose to take a swim, you'll find yourself enchanted by these tropical vibes right on the edge of Cleveland.
July: Put-in-Bay
There’s nothing like a road trip from Cleveland to Lake Erie’s own little paradise island, and no time is better than July to visit Put-in-Bay. You’ll adore Fireworks Over The Bay, their dazzling Independence Day display. Not planning on visiting during this super-busy day of celebration? That’s totally fine! There’s
much to discover here, from its famous Crystal Cave to architectural wonders.
August: Little Italy
Cleveland’s own Little Italy is an absolute treat for those that love international culture. It’s a slice of Europe, from its architectural elements to its exquisite dining scene. Speaking of which, the
Feast Of The Assumption is an indulgence your taste buds can’t say no to!
September: Buckland Museum of Witchcraft & Magick
Gearing up for the spooky season? Perfect, because we have one super unique destination that you can visit before the seasonal festivities pack your schedule. The
local witchcraft museum is one you won’t be able to pass up – its collections will tantalize your imagination and inspire adventure.
October: Mapleside Farms
There’s no place in Greater Cleveland that quite rivals the spectacular landscape of this historic farm in Brunswick. Now an apple orchard and an absolutely magical stretch of fall foliage, Mapleside is the best place to go around Halloween. Their
hillside slide is one of their shining attractions, and a zip down its expanse will awaken your inner child.
November: Hale Farm & Village
There’s nothing quite as nostalgic as the holiday season in Northeast Ohio! Snow often arrives in November, giving the landscape a dreamy atmosphere and making familiar places so much cozier. There’s one last holiday to get through before the holidays arrive, however, and that’s Thanksgiving! Rumor has it that
Abraham Lincoln stops by Hale Farm & Village most Thanksgivings for dinner.
December: Greater Cleveland Aquarium
It’s hard to envy Santa Claus during the December season. He’s always so busy, buzzing around to local events and still making time to check in on his workshop and prep the reindeer for their big night. He also, unbeknownst to many, clears his schedule to go
scuba diving in the Greater Cleveland Aquarium . This is one encounter you won’t want to miss!
There are many unique attractions in Cleveland, but the aforementioned 12 belong on every local bucket list.
