Look… up in the sky! It’s a bird… it’s a plane… it’s Superman! Here in Northeast Ohio, it could be any of the above, as our region is the birthplace of Superman… and it’s also the home state of the Wright Brothers, who spearheaded the development of aviation. Today, this achievement doesn’t feel so far away thanks to incredible air museums in Northeast Ohio. While we do have one in Cleveland, we’re going to take a virtual visit to another fascinating air museum about one hour south. Buckle up, because on this adventure you’re going to discover that the sky isn’t the limit… it’s just the beginning of an epic adventure.
Located about an hour away from Cleveland, the MAPS Air Museum is an internationally celebrated collection of aerial splendor. Here, "History Takes Flight" thanks to careful curation and restoration by the Military Aviation Preservation Society.
The museum was incorporated in 1990, and the following years would be filled with growth. Today, there's always something to see... from aircraft to artifacts related to the people that flew them.
As this is a "working" museum, there's always something on-site undergoing renovation. Some are being rebuilt in the more secretive corners of the museum, but many are on display for the public to enjoy despite impending repairs. There's so much to see on display here!

There's a great variety of color amidst the collections at MAPS Air Museum, and the art on historic aircraft will knock your socks off to this day.
Medal of Honor displays, artifacts from fallen heroes, and even the Ohio Military Museum collection (yes... there's a museum inside a museum here!) add variety to the exhibits at the museum. The military collection includes uniforms stretching back as far as the war of 1812... and that's just one piece of interest in this large museum!
The MAPS Air Museum is closed Mondays and on select dates for events, but you can swing by throughout the remaining six days of the week during select hours.
Whether you choose to take a self-guided tour or explore the grounds with a guide (which is included with admission, if you're interested), there's much to take in at this incredible museum. Keep in mind that some displays are outside, so you'll want to dress appropriately for the weather.
You can find this museum at 2260 International Pkwy, North Canton, OH 44720.
While there are many incredible air museums in Northeast Ohio, MAPS Air Museum is one of the most fascinating. Here, you’ll find your imagination taken to the stratosphere and beyond… so we hope you’re not afraid of heights!
