Ohio is full of haunted history, particularly in and around Cleveland. This area has boasted many beautiful buildings that have long since disappeared — time takes its inevitable toll on older structures, as many of them were built from wood and unfit to last against our infamous snow belt weather. The oldest building in Cleveland is the Dunham Tavern, built in 1824. Throughout Greater Cleveland, a few buildings of comparable age have stood against the sands of time… and some have amassed their fair share of spectral residents. Today we’re enjoying a virtual visit to a haunted manor house that’s just one decade newer than Cleveland’s oldest structure, and we’re going to prep for the creepiest camping trip you can imagine. You've just arrived at Farnam Manor, the most haunted estate in the state.
Creepy yet beautiful, Farnam Manor was built by Everett Farnam and his wife, Emily, in 1834. They so adored their home that they established their family cemetery on the grounds, but, eventually, the estate passed out of the hands of the Farnam family, eventually operating as a speakeasy in the 1920s and then a restaurant through the 1970s.
This spooky estate comes with a haunted history. The Farnam family lost a daughter on this site — she drowned in a cistern in 1858. The owner of the restaurant that once operated here died on site, as well, and modern visitors can only dare to imagine what took place when the home was a speakeasy.
When this crumbling, decrepit structure was purchased in 2003, its new owners knew they needed to renovate.
It's said that the upgrades introduced in the 21st Century awoke formerly slumbering spirits, causing them to haunt the site and interact with visitors. You can find more information on the many hauntings of Farnam Manor here.
Modern day visitors can mingle with the spirits at this site's many events or they can actually camp on the property.
There's nothing quite like camping under the Ohio sky, right? Now, you can actually go creepy camping at this Richfield estate. For $65, you can bring your own tent and camp on-site, perhaps mingling with the spirits that consider this pretty place to be their earthly home.

In addition to the overnight stay, campers are treated to a guided tour of Farnam Manor, refreshments, and a bonfire.
Can you imagine camping on this estate? It's most definitely an excursion that's not for the faint of heart. Imagine smelling the smoke of a phantom cigar wafting across the open grass, or the sound of giggling as the Farnam's drowned daughter waits for you to come play. The spirits here are anything but dark, though — they're playful and are said to love company. With that being said, who's up for a camping trip?
