There are a lot of fish in Lake Erie. This huge, freshwater Great Lake seems almost like an ocean when you sit or stand on its shores. People have been using this lake for recreation, sustenance, and water for thousands of years, and still are today. One way you can really indulge in the wonders of Lake Erie is by eating some of its bounty, and you can do exactly that at Cleveland-area restaurant, Jake’s on the Lake. Read on to learn more.
Jake's opened in 2009 and is about 30 minutes west of downtown Cleveland in Avon Lake, Ohio. It's worth the trip. There, you can enjoy some Lake Erie perch during a great meal that you'll always remember.
Jake's on the Lake's most popular menu item is the perch. The Lake Erie Perch Dinner includes a half pound of fresh, fried perch, fries, homemade coleslaw, and tartar sauce. If that's not enough perch for you, you can add extra pieces, too!
If you prefer, you can get fried perch in sandwich form instead. The Lake Erie Perch Sandwich comes on a toasted bun and Jake's homemade coleslaw and tartar sauce.
Lake Erie perch isn't the only fresh fish that Jake's on the Lake serves, though! You can also eat Lake Erie walleye; the Blackened Walleye is eight ounces of pan-seared fresh-caught walleye dusted with Cajun spices. Yum!
The Captain's Platter includes Lake Erie walleye bites, Lake Erie perch fillets, fried shrimp, fries, coleslaw, and tartar and cocktail sauces.
If you're not feeling perch or walleye, there are many other great options on the menu as well. You can try the Lakehouse Salad or the Caesar Salad. You can add chicken, shrimp, salmon, or steak to either one.
Maybe you'd like some soft-shell tacos? You can get them with chicken, shrimp, or - you guessed it - Lake Erie perch! They also come with lettuce, tomatoes, and cheese.
Of course, if you're feeling more turf than surf, Jake's on the Lake has a lot of non-seafood options as well. The meatloaf is spectacular, and folks also rave about Jake's burgers and ribs.
Jake’s on the Lake is an excellent option if you want to eat local fish in Ohio! Lots of people probably don’t even realize this is a thing that you can do – but when you go eat Lake Erie perch or walleye at Jake’s on the Lake, you’ll be supporting a local business that offers local fish, and that’s pretty awesome indeed. Enjoy!
