Are you a nature lover? Here in Ohio, natural splendor abounds… especially as autumn approaches! While The Land may seem to be an urban jungle of its own, there are actually several natural places in and within driving distance of Cleveland that are worthy of a visit. You’ll reconnect with serenity at these fall foliage wonderlands near Cleveland! Lace up your hiking boots now, because these beautiful locations are calling your name.
Woodland Cemetery is an incredible gem. It was established in 1853, though the cemetery fell into disrepair in the following century. Recent years, however, have restored this rural cemetery to its former glory (thanks largely in part to efforts of groups like the Woodland Cemetery Foundation). Today, this 60-acre cemetery is a dream in the autumn months. Find it at 6901 Woodland Ave, Cleveland, OH 44104.
Tinker's Creek Gorge is an absolutely magical spot to hike in any season. This area, hiding in Bedford Reservation, features a waterfall as well as remnants of old mills. There's so much to discover here! Take in this area's beauty at Willis St, Bedford, OH 44264.
Chapin Forest Reservation spans over part of Gildersleeve Mountain, a peak that actually stretches 1,163 feet above sea level. Didn't know that we had our own mountain here in Greater Cleveland? You're not alone, but now is an excellent time to start exploring it. With nearly six miles of trails and excellent overlooks, this pretty spot might just become your new favorite park. Find it at 938 Chillicothe Rd. (Rt. 306), Kirtland, OH 44094.
If you've never visited the Fine Arts Garden at Wade Lagoon, you are in for an absolute treat this fall. This unique garden has an otherworldly beauty, particularly when the surrounding trees are lit up in hues of gold and rust. See how many statues you can spot at 11130 East Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44106.
For many, autumn isn't complete without a trip to this stunning apple orchard in Brunswick. Locals love its legendary hillside slide as well as its selection of epic annual events. Pay it a visit at 294 Pearl Rd, Brunswick, OH 44212.
The effervescent Cleveland Cultural Gardens are an incredible treat in autumn. This unique grouping of landscaping and statues spans much of MLK Drive, and it has dazzled visitors since its inception. Find it at 10823 Magnolia Dr, Cleveland, OH 44106.
This magnificent cemetery is done in the Victorian garden style, meaning it's particularly lively considering that it's a burial ground. Lake View Cemetery dates back to 1869, and some of Cleveland's finest residents have chosen to make it their eternal resting place... and they've also chosen to further beautify it by adding exquisite monuments and statues. Check it out at 12316 Euclid Ave, Cleveland, OH 44106.
In addition to being the oldest of the Cleveland Metroparks, Rocky River Reservation is full of history. Once upon a time, historians found fossil fish from the Devonian era in the park, and visitors can spot archaeological earthworks to this very day. Visit Rocky River Reservation via Valley Pkwy, North Olmsted, OH 44070.
This lovely gem is also tucked away in Rocky River Reservation, but Berea Falls Scenic Overlook is a world all its own. This lovely spot is a reminder of the ancient waterways that once crisscrossed the region, as its sandstone and shale are remnants of historic river deltas. You can visit this scenic spot at 136 E Bagley Rd, Berea, OH 44017.
