When it comes to autumn in Northeast Ohio, I can’t help but advise to explore areas beyond Cleveland. Sure, our little slice of the state is stunning, but there’s so much beauty beyond the city metropolitan area that’s worth exploring. You don’t even have to drive an hour outside of town before you stumble upon quaint small towns where life moves at a slower pace. Today, we’re going to look at a convivial village near Cleveland that’s stunning in the autumn. This fall day trip from Cleveland is easily expandable, so if you have a bit of time, don’t shy away from visiting our suggested neighboring communities. Pack up the car and check it out:
Welcome to Perry, Ohio, a Lake County village that's worth a visit this autumn.
Less than 2,000 people call this pretty place home, so as you may imagine, it's an incredible place to steal away and escape the hustle and bustle of city life.
One of my favorite places to go in Perry is Lake Erie Bluffs.
Lake Erie Bluffs, 2901 Clark Rd, Perry, OH 44077, USA
The Village of Perry was named for Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry, whose famous victory at the Battle of Lake Erie has become something of a local legend. Lake Erie Bluffs allows you a gorgeous view of our own Great Lake, and it's an incredible camping spot... especially if you don't mind that nippy lake breeze.

This is an incredible spot to see fall foliage, and even the early onset of winter.
There's something downright haunting about leafless trees hugging Lake Erie's coast. Though beautiful in every season, fall is a memorable time to visit this spot.

A lakefront observation tower — a recent addition to the park — gives you a bird's eye view of the scenery and fall foliage.
At 50 feet in height, this tower is even taller than the rocky bluffs for which the park was named. While the tower is closed in the winter months, autumn is a great way to make the most of the views before they're closed to the public for the year.
Across town, the gorgeous Lee Lydic Park provides even more beauty to visitors.
Lee Lydic Park, 3954 Call Rd, Perry, OH 44081, USA
This gorgeous park is your typical municipal park, complete with playgrounds, walking trails, and a fishing pond. Foliage is often spectacular here, so it's excellent picnicking destination.
Early in the autumn, you might even be lucky enough to catch the park's blooming sunflowers...
This is one local park that's worth bringing a camera to! Autumnal vibes abound here, and migrating monarchs are often plentiful as they make their way toward Mexico for the winter.
Follow the village Facebook page for news on upcoming and past events. You might even find familiar faces like Santa Claus stopping by the park before winter officially sets in... it often seems like this park is the heart and soul of the community!
If you're looking for a place to relax after your leaf peeping adventures, you might consider stopping by Village Pub.
Open Tuesday through Sunday, this charming small town eatery is relaxed, comfortable, and welcoming. Have a drink to unwind, and be sure to start working up an appetite. They don't hold back when it comes to delicious food!

While handhelds are a fan favorite here, their menu has something for everyone.
Painesville is home to a splendid waterfall, and it's one of my favorites in Northeast Ohio. You might even drive over it, depending on the route you take, but the foliage and sound of falling water create an absolutely surreal experience.
Also about 10 minutes away, Madison, Ohio's The Lost Pearl Bed & Breakfast has a comfortable room waiting to make this destination into a weekend trip.
The Lost Pearl Bed & Breakfast, 4194 Dayton Rd, Madison, OH 44057, USA
Madison is part of Grand River Valley Wine Country, so plenty of local wineries are just a stone's throw away. You'll love exploring the area, and you might even find a new favorite beverage during your stay.
Perry, Ohio, and its surrounding communities are truly local gems.
The outdoors reign in Perry, and this fall day trip from Cleveland is absolutely unbeatable. You’ll see foliage, wildlife, and a community that just might capture your heart.
While you’re in Lake County, don’t forget that the Lake Metroparks Farmpark is always a worthy destination. With hiking trails, animals, and hands-on displays, you’ll get to experience life on the farm right here in Northeast Ohio.
