The city of Medina, located just south of Cleveland, is positively overflowing with history and small-town charm. Though it is home to roughly 27,000 residents, the Victorian downtown is a constant reminder of the county’s quaint roots. It seems each building in this lovely community has a story to tell, but the tales from this one pizzeria would truly astonish visitors if walls could talk.
Americans love pizza. We consume more than 6,000 slices in an individual lifetime, and if you were to spread out every slice of pizza eaten in a single day in America, it would cover an estimated 100 acres!
Located at 2 Public Square, this charming storefront is one of the first buildings to greet southbound visitors entering the enchanting Medina Square.

When the owners began stripping drywall before opening the pizzeria, they exposed bricks dating back to 1821. You can still see them today, celebrating the history of one of the oldest buildings in Medina.
Medina Square tragically burned on two occasions. The first was in 1848 and the second in 1870; however, this building survived both incidents. Newspapers from 1848 recount that the flames were visible from Downtown Cleveland!
The structure once served as the local courthouse and jail, and remnants its past are hidden all around the building.
From the exposed brick walls to the well-worn floorboards, the craftsmanship of this edifice is astoundingly evident.
In fact, you can spot a single barred window on the back side of the building, which remains to remind the community that this building once housed a jail cell.
And if this monster doesn't fill you up, Courthouse Pizzeria also offers salads, subs, bread sticks, calzones, and dessert... if you can save some room.
