There’s just something incredible about international cuisine. The rich and rare flavors, the use of oft-overlooked ingredients, and the local spin on tradition make for an experience like no other. Here in Cleveland, there’s no shortage of unique eats… sure, we’re no NYC, but we’re a foodie town at the core. When it comes to new restaurants in Cleveland, there’s one dining destination that opened in 2022 that’s getting a ton of hype (and rightfully so). But the story behind this modern Indian restaurant is best told in its colorful small plates… in just one visit, you’ll be perfectly poised to mix and match your way to the perfect meal.
Over in Ohio City, there's a massive painting that's almost guaranteed to catch the eye.
Ohio City, not to be confused with the actual city of that same name, is a neighborhood of Cleveland known for its artsy residents and delicious dining. This same neighborhood is known for attractions like the West Side Market, a destination that was built in 1912 but also occupied the site without a formal brick-and-mortar as early as 1840. This entire neighborhood is full of charm!
As you follow the tiger's tail, you'll find Amba, a modern Indian cuisine restaurant that just opened in 2022.
This delicious dining destination in the Hingetown District has something for everyone, including vegan, gluten-free, and seafood entrees. As soon as you enter, you'll be greeted by delicious aromas.

Inside, of course, Amba curates an environment that feels a million miles away from Cleveland.
With rich cascading curtains and low lights, Amba effortlessly creates an unbeatable ambiance. While the restaurant has quickly become a local favorite for takeout, there's nothing like dining in here.

Once the food arrives at your table, you'll realize you've found one of the most unique restaurants in Cleveland.
This dish is called Crispy Puris, and it's vegetarian and delicious. Interestingly, one of the ingredients in this dish, zhug, pays homage to one of the owners' other local dining concepts. Chef Doug Katz also owns Zhug, a Mediterranean-inspired destination that's also known for its elegant ambiance.
The Amba menu is mostly comprised of small plates, which empowers you to mix and match your way to the perfect meal.
Share with the table to get the most flavors, or select the most appetizing options all for yourself. It's all about what works best for you at Amba! If you're feeling especially adventurous, the menu also includes Chef's Tastings, which are hand-curated experiences for two to eight people.
Speaking of condiments, it's hard not to love the sauces at Amba! You can start with amba sauce to explore the restaurant's namesake flavors, or you can opt for more familiar flavors like creamy tomato sauce.
Whatever you decide on, don't forget to designate a driver before your visit!
The restaurant, which can seat up to 80 patrons, has a delicious selection of wine by the glass or by the bottle. There's also beer and cocktails... you've got to try the nimbu masala cocktail if you're a fan of ginger drinks.
The restaurant does not accept reservations, but if you stop by on a busy night, it's well worth the wait.
While the restaurant is closed on Sundays, it's open for dinner Monday through Saturday. On Friday and Saturday, the kitchen closes around 11 p.m., making this an excellent option for late-night dining.
Though the dessert menu is modest, there's no shortage of flavor. Try pistachio-topped kulfi, coconut ice cream accented chocolate torte, or a refreshing vegan blackberry icebox cake.
Whether you opt for familiar options like popcorn chicken (pictured) or something more exotic, you might find yourself returning to this new restaurant in Cleveland time and time again.
This is a great place to meet up with friends, spend a romantic date night, or even dine solo. Overall, there's just no restaurant in Cleveland that quite compares!
Pull up a chair and stay for a spell... you're going to love visiting Amba in Cleveland!
