Clevelanders are constantly presented with opportunities for road trips simply because Ohio’s northern shore is overflowing with spectacular attractions. However, if you’re a nature lover, this road trip is one you simply can’t pass up. Hidden near Cleveland is a spectacular site that is known as the best in the state to witness spring migrations of neotropical birds. Hop in the car and pack a few snacks, because this destination is a must see.
Located at 13229 West State Route 2 in Oak Harbor, this destination is a little over an hour outside of Cleveland. It is, however, one of the most incredible journeys wildlife lovers can embark on.
Magee Marsh Wildlife Area is composed of 2,202 acres and it has a reputation for being one of the best birding sites in the entire state of Ohio.
During the first few weeks of May, an incredible array of neotropical bird species pile on the ridges and knolls of Lake Erie's shoreline. This enchanting wildlife area maintains some of Ohio's finest remaining wetlands, making it an attractive site to migrating species.

Since the late 1800s, the unique array of species at the marsh has attracted visitors. The Ohio Division of Wildlife purchased the site in 1951, and since then locals have been unable to resist the call of this magical landscape.

Magee Marsh is an absolute dream during spring and fall migrations, attracting as many as 300 diverse species to the area.
