Once upon a time, craft breweries were an oddity. Today, they’re superabundant across the United States, something that has shined a spotlight upon the diversity of preferred flavors encompassed throughout different regions. For clarity, craft breweries are often independently owned and produce small batches of beer at a time. These small batches allow local flavor preferences to shine through, particularly when they use fruit from area orchards and other local ingredients. Here in The Land, brews are bold, hearty, and often heavy… and they’re downright delicious. There are many craft breweries in Cleveland today that are worth checking out. Prepare your palate, because these destinations are just a few local producers that belong on your bucket list:
The historic and oh-so-charming Bryant Building sets the perfect scene for Masthead Brewing Co.'s taproom. With 300 seats indoors and an extra 50 on their dog-friendly patio, there's a lot of energy in this chic destination... and aromas, too, as its kitchen produces delicious meals that pair perfectly with their barrel-aged brews. Visit this historic location and enjoy a drink or two at 1261 Superior Ave, Cleveland, OH 44114.
In 2015, The Cleveland Brewery opened its doors, much to the delight of locals. Many of the brews reference local culture, like the delightfully spicy brew "Lakeview Cemetery." With over 50 recipes and an always rotating selection on tap, this local destination has quickly become a fan favorite. Visit it at 777 E 185th St, Cleveland, OH 44119.
When it comes to creative flavors and fun artwork, few places quite compare to Platform Beer Co. Since 2014, Platform has slowly expanded its presence across Cleveland, moving into different neighborhoods and expanding its fanbase. Recently, not even a decade into existence, this brewery announced an upcoming Pittsburgh location, too! With playfully delicious brews incorporating slushie flavors, fruit flavors, and so much more, Platform has perhaps some of the more unique flavor offerings in The Land. Check out its original location at 4125 Lorain Ave, Cleveland, OH 44113.
Ohio City has enjoyed a revitalization in recent years, and the new energy in this old neighborhood is downright infectious. Bookhouse Brewing is an awesome combination of old and new, operating a fairly new taproom in a historic building that was actually used as a taproom over a century ago. You see, the old Bookhouse Brewing building once housed the Baehr Brewery. German immigrants Jacob and Magdelena made beer together for nearly a decade before Jacob passed away. For nearly four decades, Magdelena operated as "Cleveland's widow brewer," though she eventually sold the business in 1901. Today, this taproom (which is filled with bookshelves that operate as a free library) celebrates neighborhood charm with dreamy brews like "Modern Romance" and "Lost And Found Maple Brown Ale." Visit at 1526 W 25th St, Cleveland, OH 44113.
Family-owned and welcoming, Noble Beast has quickly become a fan-favorite dining destination. With farm-fresh ingredients, their seasonally-rotating menu is a step above traditional pub grub... and everything pairs beautifully with their flavorful brews. Armed with funky names like "Evil Motives IPA" and "Mouth Candy Red IPA," you'll have fun while you enjoy classically Cleveland beers. Visit this local hot spot at 1470 Lakeside Ave E, Cleveland, OH 44114.
Goldhorn Brewery is cozy and cool at the same time. This chic destination is tucked away in St. Clair Superior’s Hub 55 complex and nods to the area's ethnic roots via its name -- a reference to the legendary snow-white mountain goat with gold horns that dominates Slovenian folklore. In the tale, the goat's horns are key to a treasure hidden in the local mountains. However, the animal has a tremendously long-lasting life, which was granted to it when it ate magical flowers that grew from drops of its blood after the poor critter was injured by a hunter. The beer at Goldhorn Brewery may not give you lasting life, but it's delicious to an almost magical degree. Try the" Dead Man's Curve IPA" or "Polka City Pilsner" if you don't believe us! Visit this awesome destination at 1361 E 55th St, Cleveland, OH 44103.
