Camp Chase was established in May of 1861. The camp was much larger than the cemetery and the entrance was on the National Road, four miles west of Columbus.
Take some time to read the historical markers throughout the cemetery. You'll find some hidden gems, such as this historic cannonball.

Camp Chase was also a training camp for Ohio soldiers, a parole camp, and a muster-out post.
During its time as a Prisoner-Of-War Camp, more than 9,400 men were held at Camp Chase. Today, it's sobering to walk among the sea of graves.
