Train rides are great, unique outings that are perfect for a date night or a family-friendly excursion. We have so many train destinations around Cincinnati that we were able to put together a whole train-themed road trip! However, we’re featuring just one of the coolest today, and it’s located just outside of town, across the Indiana border.
In the small town of Connersville, you’ll find the historic Whitewater Valley Railroad. This nostalgic train station is the starting point for many fun-filled trips along the tracks and one will take you back in time and way out west. The Railroad offers a Wild West Train To Dinner ride that not only takes you through beautiful scenery and to a delicious dinner, but you’ll also want to be on the lookout for who may hop aboard and take you straight back to the wild, wild west.
Whitewater Valley Railroad is about an hour northwest of Cincinnati and is definitely one of the most authentic train ride experiences in the region. This historic station operates beautifully maintained and restored train cars and offers a wide variety of excursions throughout the year.
In addition to the popular Polar Express rides in winter, and the Day Out with Thomas rides for kids, Whitewater Valley Railroad also runs a dinner train ride that takes you to the entertaining wild, wild west, without even leaving the Midwest.
A group of charismatic actors finds their way on board to entertain you during the ride and it's truly a one-of-a-kind experience.
Your ticket for the Wild West Train To Dinner ride (which as of publication, still had space left on its August 31, 2018 excursion) includes an entertaining train ride to Laurel, Indiana, where you'll enjoy a delicious dinner at the Laurel Hotel.
The train then takes you back to the station, but you never know who you may see during your ride! Cowboys and train robbers seem to have invaded this Indiana railroad and are ready to give you an authentic taste of history.
If you'd rather not take a dinner train, or if it ends up selling out (which it likely will at some point), don't worry! Whitewater Valley offers another Wild West excursion that takes you to the charming town of Metamora, gives you two hours to explore and grab a bite to eat on your own, and then hop back on the train to head back. And you'll still get to experience the Wild West entertainment. These rides take place July 21, August 18, September 15, and October 20-21, 2018.
