The end of summer can bring mixed feelings as the season that’s filled with outdoor fun, festivals, and activities comes to a close. Thankfully, fall is definitely not dull around Cincinnati and if you need some cheering up, there’s no better cure than a field of sunflowers. Each year, crowds gather to celebrate this happy flower at Gorman Heritage Farm. The Sunflower Festival includes lots of family fun and is held the first weekend of October. It also happens to have an enormous sunflower maze that is just as magnificent as it sounds.
If you love sunflowers then this is likely your favorite time of year. There are a few spots around Cincinnati where you can catch glimpses of these stunning flowers, but arguably the best place to do so is at the Sunflower Festival at Gorman Heritage Farm.
This historic property will host its annual festival on October 6-7, 2018 and tickets are already available to purchase online (we've included the link below). Fall is a great time to visit this family-friendly farm and the season kicks off with the memorable Sunflower Festival.
The highlight of the festival is an enormous sunflower maze that takes you right through the vibrant, yellow field. There are designated pathways so you can make your way among the flowers without damaging them. There's really no better photo op in our city than one within this stunning field.
Corn mazes are popular in the fall but there's something extra special about getting lost among the sunflowers. Of course, it's difficult to time it perfectly, but the field is typically full of color for the weekend of the festival and in days following.
After wandering through the sunflowers, be sure to participate in the other activities at the festival. You'll definitely want to pick your own sunflowers to take all of that yellow happiness home with you.
It's a family-friendly affair with other activities such as wagon rides, live music, arts & crafts, and much more. The fun takes place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and you may want to consider purchasing tickets ahead of time to avoid the lines.
As it is a working farm, be sure to walk around and meet the animals, check out the gardens, and learn how this incredible system works. If you can't make it for the Sunflower Festival, you can still visit Gorman Heritage Farm on the other Saturdays in October for more fall fun.
If you're lucky, the sunflower field will still be in full bloom. There really is no better way to say goodbye to summer and hello to the natural beauty of fall.
The Sunflower Festival at Gorman Heritage Farm is one of the most beautiful gatherings in Cincinnati and the enormous maze is the best way to spend a fall afternoon in the Queen City. Is this festival a tradition for your family? Share your experience with us in the comments!
