Pencils are sharpened and lazy summer days are waning as the kids head back to school. The transition from summer to fall is often marked by back-to-school time and we are in the midst of it in Cincinnati. Whether your family loves this time of year or dreads it a bit, there are many things to look forward to as the next season begins to take shape. One way to ease into the change is to take the family out for a fun and unique meal. Located in Camp Dennison, The Schoolhouse Restaurant is the perfect eatery to visit this time of year. As a school-themed restaurant in Cincinnati, it is filled with charm and history and is a dining destination to add to your bucket list now or any other time of year.
The Schoolhouse Restaurant is housed inside what was once the Camp Dennison School, which was built in 1864.
This historic building was a two-room schoolhouse and a part of the local school district until 1952. In 1962, it was converted into a restaurant by the parents of the current owners.
This school-themed restaurant in Cincinnati was created to offer a family-style dining experience, along with incredible comfort food.
It remains a beloved restaurant today and a tradition for many local families. If you have yet to dine here, it is one of those eateries that belongs on a bucket list.

Much of the schoolhouse is exactly the same as it was over a century ago, which adds to the charm.
Walk across the creaky, original wood floors and look out the same windows as the young children from decades ago. The current dining room is located in one of the former classrooms and the kitchen is in the other.

As a family-style restaurant, the tables are set up to seat eight and include a lazy susan in the middle for sharing.
When you sit down, salads will be served while you check out the menu, which is written on the 1800s chalkboard at the front of the room. Each person orders an individual entree and then everyone shares the homemade sides.
The Schoolhouse Restaurant is known for its fried chicken, but also offers favorite comfort foods such as BBQ ribs, roast beef, fried cod, meatloaf, country fried steak, and much more.
Save time to visit the General Store, which is filled with unique items. Also, pick up some feed and take it out to the goats before you let the kids run off some energy on the property and play area.
The Schoolhouse Restaurant is also located right along the Little Miami Scenic Trail. Make a day of it and bike along the trail and then stop for a meal to fuel the ride back.
No matter how you arrive or when you visit, do plan a trip to this school-themed restaurant in Cincinnati. The history has been wonderfully maintained and this unique dining experience is a must in our Queen City.
