Summer and fall are both great times to visit local farms around Cincinnati to pick up fresh produce and support these hardworking families. Our area has many roadside farms and stands, many of which have been around for years. Unless you reside in Northern Kentucky, chances are you haven’t yet discovered McGlasson Farms on River Road in Hebron. This hidden farm is actually perfectly located for both those in Kentucky and just across the river in Cincinnati. A visit here is a wonderful way to spend your day.
McGlasson Farms is located on Route 8 (River Road), right along the Ohio River in Hebron, Kentucky. This farm has been owned and operated by the same family for six generations and many in the area have grown up with their fresh produce and friendly roadside stand.
The McGlasson Farm began in the 1860s when the family relocated from Virginia to the Ohio River Valley. The property was once much larger than it is now and began as a farm used to grow and care for the food the family needed. By the early 1900s, the family started to sell their produce at markets around Cincinnati.
In the 1960s, it became clear that locals wanted easier access to the fresh produce, so the family opened up a stand right there on the farm, next to the road. It's this roadside market that attracts loyal and new customers from all over the region to purchase everything from peaches, corn, apples, pumpkins, and much more.
All of the produce sold at the market is grown right on the farmland surrounding it. The farm is perfectly located above the floodplain, yet has excellent soil that produces amazing quality of vegetables and fruits.
Apple season is a popular one at the farm and definitely a good time to visit. Not only do they have a variety of apples, but also the most delicious apple cider, bottled right there on the farm.
At the end of summer, the farm and market transform into a harvest destination with signs of fall everywhere you look. You can stock up on produce, cider, and jams, and also pick up a few natural decorations for your home.
Pumpkins can also be found at the farm this time of year, and McGlasson's is a delightful little spot to pick the perfect one. It's a working family farm, and it definitely feels like it when you visit and you're always welcomed as a friend.
