In the historic town of Metamora, Indiana, just a short drive from Cincinnati, Main Street transforms into a scene straight out of a charming holiday movie. The town hosts an old-fashioned Christmas walk throughout the season, and it’s a timeless tradition and event that you’ll want to experience.
Metamora is a wonderful day trip destination from Cincinnati and the historic town is particularly special during the holidays. If you've ever wondered if those Hallmark movie towns actually exist, then you need to check out the Old Fashioned Christmas Walk in Metamora.
This timeless event begins the day after Thanksgiving and takes place through December 16th. It runs on Fridays and Saturdays until 10 p.m. and on Sundays until 5 p.m. Different activities take place and shops are open at varying times, but the town is always illuminated with holiday cheer.
Metamora is known for its canal and canal boat and historic mill that take you back in time. During the Christmas Walk, you can visit both, which are also decorated for the season.
In fact, the entire town surrounding Main Street is filled with trees, garland, lights, lanterns, and festive red bows that make you feel as if you've stepped into a Christmas painting. Stroll through the town and just try not to hum a carol or two - it's next to impossible.
The town's tree will also be lit up with countless colorful lights and it's a great spot for a photo op. You can also visit Santa at the Santa House on Friday and Saturday from 5 p.m to 9 p.m.
Be sure to walk along the canal and admire the historic boat. For another experience, keep an eye out for horse and carriage rides that will carry you around town.
