Good things tend to happen when passionate people get together to share in a hobby, and such is the case with the Cinder Sniffers. This non-profit began as a small club made up of only a few people who had a deep love and interest in steam engines. This group builds and maintains different scale trains and even has a track system on which to test them out. Several times a year, Cinder Sniffers welcomes interested visitors to come to check it all out and this miniature train ride attraction near Cincinnati is something your whole family will enjoy.
The Cincinnati Cinder Sniffers began with a total of six people in 1955 and has since grown to include over 50 regular members. This passionate club works hard at their hobby and has built an incredible place to bring it all to life.
Members build scaled model trains that run via steam engines, oil fired, propane fired, battery powered, and gasoline engines. The trains come in a variety of sizes and are quite impressive in detail and functionality.
The members of the club work year-round to build and maintain the trains and tracks and they've been through many ups and downs to create the ideal location for their railroad. In 1968, construction of the current site began in Guilford, Indiana, just 30 minutes from Cincinnati.
The tracks have expanded over the years, and while they are typically only utilized by members, they do allow visitors and railroad fans on certain dates. These events and rides are free, but as it is a non-profit, donations are much appreciated.
You can learn about upcoming events here, and the next ones will take place the Saturday after Thanksgiving and on New Year's Day. Before visiting, be sure to check out the Visitors page on the Cinder Sniffers website, linked below.
During a visit, you'll get a chance to ride the rails on these miniature trains and chat with the creative people behind this charming railroad. Keep in mind, this is a private club, so while they do enjoy sharing their passions, please be respectful of their cherished trains and the property.
