Our city has legendary diners, impeccable fine dining, and local favorites that all make our bellies happy here in the Queen City; however, one of the most appealing things about these restaurants is that despite their incredible food, they remain down to earth. It’s places like these where you want to walk in, have a seat, chat with the staff, and relax with a memorable meal. If you have yet to try any of these eight humble little restaurants around Cincinnati, then it’s definitely time to pay them a visit.
1. Sitwell's Coffee House (324 Ludlow Ave., Cincinnati, OH 45220)
Sitwell's is a Cincinnati legend that remains an inviting and charismatic spot to grab a bite to eat. This coffee house and cafe is located in the heart of the Gaslight District in Clifton and is a favorite of UC students - and everyone else who has given it a try. This little restaurant is filled with character, but remains humble despite its beloved status. Enjoy a number of hot and cold beverages, a delicious breakfast or lunch, and then walk around this lovely neighborhood in Cincinnati.
This hidden gem on the west side is tucked away amongst a strip of stores, but don't make the mistake of driving past! The double-decker sandwiches are out of this world, and you'll love the relaxed and comfortable feel of this local favorite.
3. Hitching Post (2715 Madison Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45209)
The Hitching Post in Hyde Park is also tucked away in a strip mall on the busy corner of Madison and Edwards in Hyde Park. This family-owned gem has the "world's best fried chicken" and has been humbly satisfying the community for decades. Whether you choose to eat in or carry-out, stop here for one of the best breakfasts in town!
Tucker's, located downtown on Vine Street, originally opened in 1946 and has long been a local favorite. This classic diner is the definition of humble, as the community rallied behind them in 2015 to help rebuild this mom & pop restaurant after a fire. Every meal of the day is delicious, and you won't find a better value or vintage dining experience in the city.
Stop by this enticing corner pizza shop for a slice any time of day. The Kitchen Factory is located in the heart of Northside and offers full dining during the day and a walk-up window for late night pizza cravings. Try a slice of the "Pie of the Day" at this delightful eatery.
6. The Swampwater Grill (3742 Kellogg Ave., Cincinnati. OH 45226)
The Swampwater Grill is a not-so-hidden gem right by the river on Kellogg Avenue. This laid-back seafood restaurant has such a great atmosphere and friendly service that you'll want to eat here every night. Try the gator bites and the fresh seafood and discover one of Cincinnati's delicious secrets.
7. Just Cooking (316 W. 15th St., Cincinnati, OH 45214)
When you're craving the ultimate comfort food, but just don't want to cook it yourself, walk into this tiny restaurant off the beaten path. Just Cooking is owned by an incredible cook, Monica, who loves creating soul-filling food for the community. You may see a line out the door at this carryout and catering eatery, but the wait is so worth it.
8. La Mexicana Restaurante Cantina & Tienda (642 Monmouth St., Newport, KY 41071)
La Mexicana in Newport serves some of the most authentic Mexican food in the Cincinnati area, and they do so with a gracious smile. Their food is fresh, flavorful, and definitely unique. Be sure to come here with an empty stomach, because the tortilla chips alone are crispy bites from heaven!
