There are many destinations around Cincinnati that several people believe to be haunted. Most of these places have horrible stories involving murder and tragedy, and some even open their doors for you to check out for yourself. Just outside of Cincinnati in Middletown, there’s an elementary school that closed its doors for learning in 2000; however, when the new owners moved in with the hopes of maintaining this historic building, they soon found that many of the former students – at least ghosts of former students – still go to class at Poasttown Elementary School.
Located in Middletown, Poasttown Elementary School welcomed students from 1937 until 2000. Thanks to its long run and fairly recent closing, many locals still remember walking the halls as students. Many of those same students also have memories of weird feelings and experiences happening within its walls.
A few years after the school closed, a local man noticed its sad state and he and his wife purchased it and made it their main residence. At the time, they just thought they were buying a historic building that needed some love, but it didn't take long for them to realize they weren't the only ones inhabiting this abandoned school.
Paranormal investigators brought in their equipment and recorded both audio and visual evidence that some of the students weren't quite done with their days of elementary school. The owners now offer scheduled investigations and events so that the public can come in and experience the creepy phenomena for themselves.
A group is able to book an investigation on their own or you can keep an eye out for events that take place throughout the year. You can spend time both in the daylight and in the night investigating.
The stories about the images and activity witnessed are vast and often include the sounds of lockers, footsteps, doors opening and closing, and shadows moving throughout hallways.
It's uncertain why this particular elementary school would be haunted, but there are several theories. Some of them have to do with train accidents and devastating flooding that happened in the area that would have produced a lot of "energy." Another popular theory is that when a person dies and doesn't cross over, they go to where they were happiest, and for many, that would be their elementary school.
The owners and staff have accepted that they are a part of something very intriguing at this school, and have even set up some classrooms and provided a few playful things for the ghostly students.
They say at the school that "when you leave, you believe." With all of these stories, photos, and even evidence caught on video, it seems that this statement may not be far from the truth.
