During the holiday season, there are several images and items that always pop up to put us in the Christmas spirit. One of the most iconic of these is the candy cane. These red and white striped candies are a classic holiday tradition that we all know and love, but did you know that Cincinnati is home to the oldest candy cane company in the country? Doscher’s Candies has been the sweetest candy cane shop in Cincinnati since 1871 and it is delighting even more guests and candy lovers today.
Doscher's Candies, now located in a historic farmhouse in Newtown, is the oldest candy cane company in the U.S.
Open year-round and also offering online orders, Doscher's is a family-owned business that began back in 1871. While the Doscher family no longer owns and runs it, the current owners have continued the passion and legacy of this beloved endeavor.
In 1871, Claus Doscher created the first hand-crafted candy cane in Cincinnati, and with a name like "Claus," it doesn't get anymore festive than that.
The same recipe and process is used today to create these delicious and eye-catching candies. Of course, they are extra popular during the holidays, but they are available all year long.
