There are many unique and creative events that take place in Cincinnati, some more entertaining than others. There’s no limit to imagination in the Queen City, and that’s evident in the ways we like to have fun. One of the most creative and yet silliest events that takes place each year in West Chester is the Crazy Cardboard Boat Regatta. Participants create – and then race – in this cardboard boat race on the lake and this unique event in Cincinnati is the wackiest thing you’ll see all year.
Voice of America is a fun-filled park in West Chester that hosts many exciting events throughout the year.
Participants work hard to create a floating boat that is made entirely of corrugated cardboard. There are very specific guidelines and rules for building these boats, and teams have to get creative.

The actual appearance of the boats vary from something more traditional to those formed like an animal or other unique figure.
While participants do pay a registration fee to be in the race, spectactors can come see these boats and enjoy all of the activities for free. (There is a charge to enter the park if you are not a Butler County resident.)
Teams are grouped by age and type of boat, and then many races run throughout the day. If a boat is still floating at the end of the day, teams can choose to participate in the "Soggy Bottom Battle," which is worth sticking around for.
All of those who take to the lake on a cardboard boat must be 8 years of age and wear a life jacket. Safety is the #1 priority.
But fun is a close second, and everyone is bound to have some. Many teams take this very seriously and have put a lot of thought and creativity into their boats, which makes this event even more exciting.
Of course many boats never make it across the lake, which is half the fun.
