One such place is a secret garden of sorts that you’ll want to check out. Hauck Botanic Garden and the Civic Garden Center are located right the heart of Cincinnati and this lovely garden space is truly a sight to be seen.
Located in Avondale on Reading Road, Hauck Botanic Gardens and the Civic Garden Center are situated on eight acres of land once owned by Cornelius J. Hauck. As a passionate horticulturist, Hauck transformed the property into a diverse garden and then willed it to the city upon his passing in 1967.
When driving along this section of Reading Road, you'd never know that a botanic garden existed here unless you were looking for it. The garden is managed by Cincinnati Parks and the property is also home to the Civic Garden Center, which is very active in the community.
The grounds are free for the public to visit and they are home to hundreds of varieties of trees, shrubs, evergreens, and other plants. Each season brings new life and new experiences to the gardens.
There are many separate gardens within the property and pathways to make your way around to it all. It is open daily and offers a quiet respite in the middle of the city.
The variety of plant life is a highlight of the gardens. Spring, summer, and fall are wonderful times to see everything in bloom. Mr. Hauck was a horticulture expert and his passion is clearly on display on in this charming garden.
There are unique places throughout the garden to rest and take in its beauty. There are also historic structures on the property, as well as some local wildlife that loves to call this place home.
The Civic Garden Center is a hub of learning - and there are many opportunities to do so at the Garden. Aside from the special events hosted throughout the year, visitors will also find signs that provide information and interactive stations for all ages sprinkled throughout the landscape.
