There’s something extra special about stumbling upon a hidden gem that serves up delicious food in a unique environment. It’s even more magical when these eateries are truly hidden – as in, down an alley where you’d least expect to find them. Right across the river in Covington, Lil’s Bagels is one of those hidden alley restaurants that you’ll want to seek out. It recently reopened and is once again making its flavorful bagels, and this hidden bagel window near Cincinnati is definitely worth tracking down.
Lil's Bagels in Covington began out of the desire for the perfect bagel. They set out to create a hand-rolled, boiled, and baked bagel that everyone will enjoy.
And they succeeded with many flavorful options, sold from their walk-up "windough" in an alley off of historic Greenup Street. In fact, this alley set-up gets just as much attention as the bagels, and both are worth seeing (and eating) for yourself.
The bagels are unlike others you've tried because, as Lil's says, they are made with "tradition, local ingredients, and lots of CHUTZPAH." If you're not sure what that means, try a bite and you'll understand!
You can enjoy the bagels in a number of different ways, but if you're looking for a filling meal, go with a sandwich. They offer a variety, including make-your-own options so you can create your ideal meal, all piled inside one of their flavorful bagels.
They also offer bagels with spreads, which are perfect for taking with you to-go. In fact, order a sandwich and eat it there, then head back to the window for a bag of bagels and spreads for later.
Lil's recently reopened after a brief closure to remodel, but they are now open again and ready for you to visit. On a nice day, enjoy your bagel on the charming patio or stroll along Greenup Street with your perfect handheld meal.
There is more to come at Lil's - and they have big plans. Follow along with them on Facebook (linked below) to stay up-to-date on all of the happenings.
Lil's Bagels and their "windough" are a match made in dining heaven. It's a magical experience to discover this enchanting alley, and once you take a bite of their handmade bagels, you'll find yourself crossing the river again soon for more.
