Once upon a time, towns were dotted with diners and family-owned eateries, rather than the fast food joints on every corner. If you wanted to dine out, you had to hop out of the car and sit down to enjoy your meal, not just order at the drive-thru and eat on the go. Quite a concept these days!
Thankfully, old-school restaurants do still exist – it just takes a little extra effort to track them down. While driving along State Route 32 just east of Cincinnati, you may have spotted Cruiser’s Diner, but if you haven’t pulled over for a bite to eat, you’re missing out! This true ’50s-style diner will give you a taste of the past, and it’s too close to Cincinnati not to visit.
Head about an hour east of the city and you’ll find Cruisers Diner. Though it looks like it has been around since the ‘50s, it actually opened up in 1998; however, this eatery has all of the retro charm you’d expect from a restaurant that has been around for decades.
This dining destination is delightful for several reasons. Not only is the food unique and delicious, it’s convenient location along SR-32 makes it a perfect spot to stop when you’re out exploring other nearby attractions. Whether you’re on your way to Amish Country or heading home from Hocking Hills, Cruisers is an awesome pit stop, although the food alone is reason enough to take an afternoon drive just to visit.
Stepping through the doors of Cruisers is like stepping back in time to the 1950s. The classic black, white, and red decor is perfect for this nostalgic diner, and the friendly faces you’ll find here bring us back to a simpler time. The restaurant is often filled with locals, but those passing through will feel just as welcomed here.
Themed restaurants can be fun, but some spend a little too much time on the decor and not enough on the menu. That’s definitely not the case at Cruisers, and their classic comfort food is just as delightful as the charming atmosphere. If you’re in the area in the morning, stop by for a classic diner breakfast and a hot cup o’ joe.
Cruisers’ burgers reign supreme around lunchtime. There are several scrumptious options on the menu, but if you’re really hungry, go for the one-pound Hubcap Burger with a side of crispy onion rings.
Speaking of dessert, you simply cannot miss the homemade pies and cakes at Cruisers. These sweet treats are piled high, made with the best ingredients, and are best enjoyed from a seat at the retro countertop.
Cruisers Diner may be a small town restaurant and a bit off the beaten path, but you’ll always find it buzzing with activity - and it’s not hard to see why it’s a beloved spot after just one bite. This blast from the past is totally worth the drive from Cincinnati!
