Cincinnati is filled with hidden streets and alleys, especially downtown, that have an incredible history. The expression “If these walls could talk,” definitely applies to these areas of our city that have seen more than a lifetime of activity. The oldest bar and tavern in Cincinnati, that we featured here is definitely one of those places, but tucked away in an alley lies a hole-in-the-wall public house that has been the source of countless memories for over 100 years. O’Malley’s in the Alley is an iconic alley pub that’s filled with history, yet remains a popular local destination today. It’s Cincinnati’s oldest hole-in-the-wall dive bar and pub, and if you have yet to try a drink and a sandwich inside, it’s time to make your way there.
O'Malley's in the Alley is tucked away in downtown Cincinnati between Race and Vine, and despite being the quintessential dive bar, has managed to remain a local favorite for over 100 years.
As the pub states, they've witnessed "prohibition, numerous wars, the great depression, countless recessions, and plenty of playoff losses," yet you'll still find them providing good food, cold drinks, and great times in the alley. Once you find the alley of Ogden Place, O'Malley's is difficult to miss and the interior is exactly what you'd expect from a historic Irish pub. It's cozy, a bit dark, and a great spot for a meal, a drink, and to watch the game.

There are classics on the menu like chicken strips and burgers, and their sandwiches are also a favorite. Try the O'Malley's Pub Favorite sandwich or go make your own Smasher for a unique meal.
Choose a local beer, a Guinness, or a cocktail of your choice and enjoy the Reds or Bengals on TV. There's a special each day, so be sure to check out their website (linked below) to see what's happening at the pub.
O'Malley's is, of course, a popular spot on St. Patrick's Day, as well as before and after sporting events downtown, but it's really just an all-around great gathering spot any time of year.
It has that historic charm and local flair that make it a favorite, and a hole-in-the-wall appeal that makes you feel like you've stumbled upon a hidden gem. O'Malley's in the Alley may seem hidden, but in fact, it's been a local gem for over a century and will likely remain one for years to come.
O’Malley’s in the Alley may be a hole-in-the-wall, hidden in an alley, but for over 100 years it’s been an iconic local destination for Cincinnatians and it’s not going anywhere anytime soon.
