I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
The Buckeye State is a bibliophile’s dream, filled with lots of new and used bookstores that offer near-endless delights for book lovers of all ages. I say this because mine is a family who loves to read; my four kids happily gobble up new titles and are always excited to visit our favorite Ohio bookstores. There’s one, however, that’s truly a delight — the quintessential cozy, colorful, charming type of bookstore you thought only existed in the movies. It’s called The Bookshelf, and it’s an unbelievably charming bookstore nestled in the unbelievably charming town of Madeira, Ohio.
There's nothing quite like a visit to a favorite neighborhood bookstore to brighten your day.
The process of perusing shelf after shelf across a ROYGBIV of colorful spines truly is an experience -- one that's getting a bit lost in today's modern shuffle of screens and technology.
Happily, however, there are still some marvelous local and independent bookstores here in the Buckeye State, but nothing quite as charming as The Bookshelf in Madeira, Ohio.
Nestled within a cozy little strip of shops in the heart of Downtown Madeira, this tiny-but-mighty bookstore has been keeping Buckeye State bibliophiles well-read for 50 years! In today's world, that's truly something to celebrate -- and support.
Of course, it's not difficult to support a place like The Bookshelf. It's a true family bookstore, offering titles for adults and young readers, as well as numerous other forms of screen-free media such as puzzles, journals, calendars, and activity books.
For me personally, however, I prefer to visit The Bookshop with my kids on a sleepy afternoon. This is a magical time where we can peruse and ask questions, read synopses and first pages, and chat with the owners about their recommendations. This one-on-one, tactile, hands-on experience is what makes independent brick-and-mortar bookshops so special, and The Bookshelf in Madeira, Ohio, truly is the best of the best.
If you’ve yet to experience this charming little bookstore in Madeira, Ohio, make a plan to do so ASAP! The Bookshelf is an absolutely delightful local business in the Buckeye State.
