I write like it's my job - because it is! I have a Master's in English and love words: crossword puzzles, Scrabble games, Wordle, and, of course, good, old-fashioned books.
I'm a writer and editor at OnlyInYourState, and a contributing writer at Cincinnati Magazine. I love the Great Outdoors and am endlessly awestruck by this beautiful country of ours. Coffee keeps me going, yoga keeps me sane, my kids keep me grounded, and my writing keeps me inspired.
As local travel experts, we know what travelers are looking for when it comes to finding the perfect accommodations for their next trip. To compile our lists, we scour the internet to find properties with excellent ratings and reviews, desirable amenities, nearby attractions, and that something special that makes a destination worthy of traveling for.
What comes to mind when you think of big, beautiful estates in the U.S.? The Biltmore, obviously. Perhaps Hearst Castle or Iolani Palace? Definitely not a property in the humble Buckeye State. And yet, that’s exactly what you’ll find when you visit the Glidden House in Cleveland. This Ohio estate is nothing short of spectacular, and the best part is, it’s been transformed into an inviting boutique hotel where you can spend the night!
From the moment you first lay eyes upon the Glidden House, a beguiling brick estate located behind a stately stone entrance, you know you're in store for something special.
And believe us, the Glidden House is truly something special. Built by the illustrious Glidden Family, the Glidden House is situated on the grounds of Case Western Reserve University in the midst of Cleveland’s cultural center, University Circle. For more than 100 years, the Circle has served as the heart of college and city activities, and this Ohio home is at the epicenter.
Rooms also pay homage to the estate's original residents. One of the founding family members, William Joy Glidden became treasurer for the Glidden Paint company and helped expand the company across the country.
Some rooms, like the Francis Harrington Glidden Suite, even feature real, working fireplaces that are the height of decadence. The suite's namesake was a patron of the arts, and we can imagine him reading something marvelous in front of this roaring fire.
Impossibly charming and irresistibly romantic, the inside of the Glidden House is elegant yet comfortable, with antique furnishings and fireplaces meant to be lived in and enjoyed.
In addition to boasting a lineup of well-appointed suites and rooms, the Glidden House is an acclaimed wedding venue. With grounds this beautiful, it's no wonder couples choose this Ohio estate for their special day!
In addition to its opulent dining room, there is a back patio area that's also open to non-guests, offering the opportunity for all to experience this enchanting Ohio estate.
When conjuring up ideas of what an estate or mansion might look like, it generally is a place that's more museum than home, more for looks and not for experiences.
