Known for amazing birding and beautiful Lake Erie scenery, this wildlife preserve also boasts the best sunrises in Ohio.
Purchased by the Ohio Division of Wildlife in August 1951, Magee Marsh Wildlife Area lies in some of the finest and most fascinating remaining wetlands in Ohio.
With its location in Lake Erie’s Western Basin marshes, many avian species call this place home. Large numbers of Canada geese, mallards, black ducks, gadwall, and green-winged teals populate its waters and shores...
There are literally hundreds of birds at Magee Marsh at different times of the year, with this preserve a high-traffic area during spring and fall migration.
Birding aside, there are numerous hiking opportunities here, including the accessible Magee Marsh boardwalk. Trails are open year-round, sunrise to sunset. Speaking of which...
(Dogs enjoy the sunrises here, too, and are permitted at Magee Marsh provided they remain on leash. Only service dogs are permitted on the boardwalk, however.)
