The Buckeye State is fortunate to have so many beautiful hiking trails. (Check out this list of easy trails to get you started.)
There’s one trail in western Ohio that belongs at the top of every Ohioan’s bucket list. It features a stunning gorge, an abundance of waterfalls and even a charming restaurant along the way. The next time you need a weekend adventure or a day trip idea, consider hiking the loop trail at Clifton Gorge State Nature Preserve. It leads to a charming restaurant and the state’s only operating water-powered grist mill.
Right by John Bryan State Park, you'll find Clifton Gorge. It follows the course of the Little Miami River, making it a beautiful hiking destination.
You'll find it at 2381 OH-343, Yellow Springs, OH 45387.
The loop trail, also known as the Pittsburgh-Cincinnati Stagecoach Trail, cuts through limestone gorge and follows interesting pieces of Ohio's past, which you can read about along the way.
You can visit Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. and Saturday – Sunday from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.
The homey atmosphere and stunning views will make you want to stay awhile. Be sure to stroll the grounds before you leave, take a photo of the covered bridge and explore the 1940s Gas Station Museum.
