When it comes to pizza, I am not shy. This most delicious dish always sounds good and always hits the spot. And while I certainly don’t scoff at a frozen pizza, I am quite spoiled because I live in a city and state with some darn delicious pizzerias. In fact, one of the most acclaimed and award-winning Italian ristorantes in Ohio is literally right down the road, and while everything at A Tavola is delizioso, it’s the pizza from this restaurant that steals the spotlight.
When it comes to Italian restaurants in Cincinnati, Ohio (and *all* of Ohio, for that matter), A Tavola Bar + Trattoria is tops. This cozy restaurant is a place for family and food, and while its original location in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine closed in 2020 after a nearly decade-long run, the owners have poured their hearts and souls into the location at 7022 Miami Avenue in Madeira, which opened in 2014.
A Tavola is best-known for their pies, which bake for just a few minutes inside a wood-fired oven to achieve the perfect charred-yet-fluffy Neapolitan crust.
For me, the Margherita pizza is the bellwether by which a pizzeria is measured. This pie -- a trio of red sauce, basil, and mozzarella -- is perfect in its simplicity, and if a restaurant executes this 'za well, you know everything else is going to be good.
All of this is to say that the Margherita pizza at A Tavola is perfect -- so much so that I have a difficult time branching out and trying other varieties because why mess with a good thing?
Does A Tavola have other things on the menu? Of course! This is an Italian restaurant, after all, and one of the best in Ohio. With fresh-made pasta (the classic Italian Cacio e Pepe is beyond words) and a robust array of appetizers (the Arancini fried risotto balls... whoa), you can put together the Italian dinner of your dreams at A Tavola!
The ambiance also factors in to the overall A Tavola experience -- low lights and rustic wood make for a cozy dining area that's just as great for family dinners as it is for date nights.
If it's a memorable Italian meal you're craving, you'll find it at A Tavola Bar + Trattoria. This neighborhood restaurant in Madeira, Ohio, has achieved icon status in just a few short years, and it's not difficult to see (or taste) why. Buon appetito!
