Ohio has some pretty incredible pieces of history that remain standing to this day.
Rider’s Inn in Painesville, Ohio is a historic treasure Ohio history buffs and ghost hunters alike will love. It’s a bed and breakfast, restaurant and pub that was once a stop on the Underground Railroad. You’ll never forget your stay (or a meal) here. Check it out:
Parts of this historic inn are rumored to be haunted—but don't let that stop you from exploring this irreplaceable piece of Ohio history.
Since the early 1800s, this historic inn has stood the test of time. It served as both a restaurant and inn along the Oregon Trail and the Underground Railroad.
With more than 200 years of history, it's no surprise that this former stagecoach inn is rumored to be haunted. Expect an occasional cold spot or unexpected chill during your visit here.
For several years, the inn was run by Joe Rider and his family. The inn's current owner and operator, Elaine Crane, continues to preserve the legacy and historic integrity of the building.
One of the most famous ghosts here is named Suzanne. Once upon a time, she was Joe Rider's third wife and a hostess at the inn. She died unexpectedly just weeks after their marriage.
Another well known ghost at this inn is a solider, though it's unclear what war he served in and what his name is. Some guests have reported seeing a ghostly figure in a Revolutionary War-era uniform, while others have reported seeing a ghostly Civil War solider.
If you're not able to spend the night, (or the idea of encountering ghosts spooks you a little too much), you can always stop into the restaurant or pub for a delicious meal and some spirits.
Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. on Monday - Saturday and dinner is served from 4:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Sunday - Thursday, as well as 4:30 p.m. - 11 p.m. (or later) on Friday - Saturday. The pub is open late on Monday - Sunday, starting at 8 p.m. each night.
Have you ever stayed at Rider’s Inn before? Did you have any spooky encounters? If so, we want to know what your experience was like!
