Ever wondered what life in Ohio was like in the 1950s? The closest you’ll get to finding out might just be spending the night in a Lustron home, which is essentially a massive time capsule. Here in Ohio, there’s a Historic Midcentury Lustron Home Airbnb in West Alexandria you can rent for the night and pretend you’re actually living in the 1950s. A getaway here is like traveling back in time.
Hiding in south western Ohio, you'll find a beautifully restored, authentic 1,000-square-foot Lustron home.
The Lustron Corporation, based in Columbus once upon a time, was once a nation-wide solution to a housing shortage. Today, few of the Lustron homes remain, scattered throughout the U.S. and Ohio.

Made of enamored steel, these mass produced homes were thought to be the answer to the housing shortage after World War II.
For many veterans, affordable housing was hard to obtain after returning home. Carl G. Strandlund established the Lustron corporation in the late 1940s with the help of a government agency that was formed to assist industry during the Great Depression, according to the Ohio History Connection.
Designed to be easy to maintain, these prefabricated model homes featured several built-in storage units, an efficient heating system and even a dishwasher-washing machine combo.
Pay attention to the details of this historic treasure. You'll find some fascinating pieces of the past and likely long for yesteryear—when times were simpler and your dollar stretched further.
The Lustron Home Airbnb features two bedrooms and one bathroom. It can comfortably sleep up to 4 guests.
Please note: The 1950s refrigerator and gas stove cannot be used but useable amenities include a washer/dryer in a separate utility room, a fully equipped kitchen (microwave, toaster, coffee maker), television and internet, air conditioning, toiletries, towels and bed linens, hair dryer, iron and ironing board.
If you've ever wanted an authentic 1950s experience, a stay at this one-of-a-kind Airbnb is picture perfect.
