Here in Ohio, you’ll encounter the creepiest of creepy places. (Be sure to check out this road trip.)
If you want to take your Halloween season horrors up a notch, however, there’s a haunted forest you need to know about. Imagine taking a 45-minute walk through a haunted forest, out in the open with nowhere to truly escape the horrors before your eyes. Pataskala Haunted Forest isn’t for the faint of heart—and its haunted grounds will likely stay with you forever. This is one haunted attraction that won’t leave you the same. Take a look:
If you think you can brave an approximately 45-minute trek through a pitch black, haunted forest then this small town attraction is just what you need for the scare of your life this Halloween season.
You'll find it at 8838 Refugee Rd., SW Pataskala, OH 43062.
Photographs and personal experiences from volunteers setting up this haunted attraction in its early days in the 1980s suggest that this forest truly is haunted; it's not merely a theatrical attraction.
While clearing the area, the Pataskala Lions Club stumbled upon a mysterious, single grave marker in the ground with the name
"Murdock" crudely engraved on it. The grave marker was found near some building remains that resembled a small house.
Today, the haunted forest is a recreation of the property and story of "The Murdock Family"—a family a local psychic medium deemed murderous after walking the grounds and exploring the property.
The grave marker itself isn't accessible to visitors, as the employees don't want it to be disturbed any further after several strange occurrences during the haunted forest's set up. To read the full, bone-chilling story of this forest's origin, click here.

Of course, actors and theatrical elements are included in the Pataskala Haunted Forest, but the true findings and mystery surrounding the forest are what make it truly creepy.
Please note: If you are too frightened to complete the walk, your guide can escort you to the nearest way out. For a complete list of FAQs, click here.
The Pataskala Haunted Forest is open every Friday and Saturday night in October. Tickets are $15 per person and are sold from 7 p.m. - midnight.
