If you’re looking for a sweet day trip destination, check out the small town of Hollister. Here you will find Casa de Fruta which bakes some of the best pies in Northern California. Whether you like apple, peach, chocolate, or something truly unique, you will find it here.
Casa de Fruta is located along the Pacheco Pass Highway in Hollister, CA about an hour northeast of Monterey.
At first, there were just a few orchards planted by an immigrant Italian family here in the Pacheco Valley. That was in 1908. About 30 years later, three of the descendants decided to open up a cherry stand.
As their diverse produce bounty grew, it developed into a full-fledge fruit market.
Now you can come and shop for cherries, apples, all types of berries, peaches, apricots, and more. They also sell nuts, taffy, fudge, chocolate-covered fruit, fruit wines, and other gourmet food products.

The pies are among the most popular items at Casa de Fruta.
Made with traditional family recipes and a whole lotta love, they attract folks from all over the Northern California area and further afield for their delicious varieties.
In addition to their amazing pies, they also sell downright delicious cheesecakes including creme brûlée, honey almond, and during the holiday season, pumpkin.
It’s a unique twist on a fruit pie encompassing several different varieties. Despite the different flavor profiles of each, they meld perfectly into one of the most interesting and delicious pie tastes you can imagine.
Casa de Fruta also has a restaurant serving up delicious breakfast (available anytime), lunch, and dinner entrees, coupled with their amazing wines. As the enterprise has grown over the years, it has added an amusement component as well, including a carousel, mining sluice, mini-train, and children’s playground.
If you’re looking for a real sweet day trip destination where you can enjoy some of the best pies in Northern California, Casa de Fruta must be on your bucket list!
