Northern California is full of impressive and awe-inspiring waterfalls, but many of them require a LOT of effort to see. Don’t get us wrong, we’re more than willing to go the extra mile to treat ourselves to seeing these natural wonders. However, an easy-to-access waterfall is always welcome! If you’re looking for an easygoing adventure that packs in a ton of natural beauty, you’ll find it in this short and sweet waterfall hike. At just 1.5-miles long, this adventure may be short…but the waterfall it leads you to is downright breathtaking
Cascade Falls might just be the most impressive waterfall hiding in the South Lake Tahoe area. However, seeing this waterfall is a surprisingly short adventure. This waterfall hike is just 1.5-miles long and you'll definitely want to accomplish it.
This wonderful little hike can be found within Emerald Lake State Park, right along the western shore of Lake Tahoe. You'll find the trailhead off of Highway 89, just across from Inspiration Point.
From the trailhead, you'll set off through the forest and over stone steps as you make your way towards Cascade Falls. The waterfall may be the ending point, but you'll find that this trail actually packs a TON of natural beauty in it from beginning to end.
As you make your way along the trail, you'll be treated to excellent vantage points of stunning natural features like Cascade Lake, Emerald Bay, and Lake Tahoe itself. The trail definitely makes up for its short length with plenty of breathtaking panoramas and you'll find yourself stopping plenty of times to take in the view.
Keep in mind that although the trail is short and there is little elevation change, you'll find yourself navigating all sorts of tricky portions of the trail. Several areas boast large rocks and boulders that you'll have to scramble over and there are a few short but steep sections.
Finally, you'll arrive at the stunning Cascade Falls. Here you can stop, relax, and soak up the breathtaking beauty of this lovely area. There are even several pools where you can dip your feet to cool off.
The trail leads you to the top of the waterfall, so the view is simply mesmerizing. Be sure to explore around the falls to get different viewpoints of this 200-foot tall beauty.
Spring and early summer is considered the best time to see Cascade Falls since this is when both the falls and Cascade Creek are roaring to life from the snowmelt. This is one short n' sweet adventure that's bound to leave an impression so be sure to check it out!
