Sometimes you just need some comfort food, and a big, juicy, flavorful burger does it for a lot of people. And there are plenty of places to find some good ones. But sometimes the best are found in the most unassuming places. Among them is Yaks Shack, a hidden gem restaurant serving up some of the best burgers in Northern California.
Located in the town of Mt. Shasta, Yaks Shack is an area favorite.
Where the shack may look tiny (although very inviting) on the outside, its HUGE on flavor and personality on the inside. The term "hidden gem restaurant" is really an understatement here.
Perhaps the biggest draw here is for what they call their World Famous Burgers.
Every one of them, according to their avid fans, is outstanding. The great taste comes from the fact that they use only the finest local grass-fed beef. And depending on your taste you can have it cooked really really pink, pink, no pink, or hockey puck.

Whether you prefer kettle chips or a side of house-cut or garlic parmesan fries, they are the perfect accompaniment for your juicy burger.
The names alone are enticing, like the Cilantro Bomb, Melt Your Tongue Lava, and the Avo Lanch Ranch. One of the most creative is the Make Me Want to Cry Garlic Obsession. Here, your burger patty is covered in fermented garlic (good grief!) then topped with deep fried onion strings, aged cheddar cheese, tomato, onion, and a drizzling of garlic aioli and homemade asiago ranch.
For breakfast, try one of their incredibly tasty burritos like the Lassen Assassin: scrambled eggs, hash browns, smoked bacon crumbles, jack cheese, black beans, and homemade chipotle sauce. Oh My! Other fun and equally tasty options include the Shasta Veggie, What’s Shakin' Bacon, and the Ham and Cheesy, just to name a few.
If you want something on the lighter side, you’ll find great salads and Buddha Bowls too!
There are plenty of options here as well. And one of the best things is that there’s a vegan and vegetarian option in each menu category, so everyone in your party is sure to find something that suits their particular dietary wants and needs. And if you have a hankering for barbecue, they’ve got a bit of that too.
As the old adage goes, don’t judge a book by its cover. Yaks Shack is worthy of an entire “read,” page by delicious page!
Have you eaten at Yaks Shack? If so, we’d love to see your photos and hear about your experience there. You can also see more mouthwatering photos on their Facebook page. Additionally, they have a sister restaurant called Yaks on the 5 in the town of Dunsmuir.
