We residents of Northern California are proud to be from the better half of the Golden State, but we know there are some stereotypes about us out there. And it’s time for us to admit that many of these stereotypes are simply fact. Here are 9 stereotypes about Northern California that are totally and completely true…and we’re proud of it!
1. We speak a different language out here.
From "hella" to "Cali" to "that's my Google glass," we Northern Californians have a special way of speaking that you might not understand right away.
2. We're not fond of the rain.
Unless there's a drought, of course. But you try enjoying sunny weather most days out of the year. You wouldn't enjoy the wet rain after that, either.
3. We love our sports teams.
We're hard workers here in NorCal, but when there's a home game with one of our teams? All bets are off. If you're living in Northern California, you better learn to love the Warriors, Sharks, Giants, A's...the list goes on and on.
4. We're really attached to our technology.
Okay, fine, we'll admit it. We may have a slight obsession with our tech out here. But, come on, with Silicon Valley right there, it's hard not to love it!
5. We're, like, so chill, dude.
Maybe it's the bottle of Napa's finest talking, but we're a pretty easygoing, laid-back crowd here in the Golden State.
6. We're tree huggers, through and through.
Most NorCal residents will tell you that they happily recycle and reuse. We love our nature, and if you don't, you better get on board.
7. We're very different from our southern neighbors.
Does Los Angeles even count as part of California? That's a question you'll find many NorCal residents asking.
8. We prefer cold beaches.
Who said beaches all have to be warm? NorCal beaches stay pretty cold for much of the year, but they still make for great surfing, swimming, and s'mores.
9. No matter who you are or where you're from, we welcome you with open arms.
From Chinese New Year rejoicing to Day of the Dead celebrations to gay pride parades, cultures and communities of all kinds are welcomed and celebrated here.
