Last summer, the Carr Fire wreaked total havoc on Northern California’s beautiful landscape. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area was a victim to a lot of damage, but the region is slowly but surely coming back to life. Over the past few months, the park has been opening up certain areas of the park to the public once again, including this beloved swimming creek. Brandy Creek Beach was one of the recreation area’s most popular spots, and it’s officially open for the season. We couldn’t be more excited to see this adored swimming spot available to us once again, so be sure to check it out this summer.
Brandy Creek Beach is officially open to us once again. Boasting the most relaxing cool and clear water, this destination contains all sorts of summer fun that you won't want to miss out on.
The beach will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. throughout the summer. Dig out your beach toys and your swim suit because Brandy Creek boasts hours upon hours of entertainment. Whether you're the type who likes to splash around or just sit back and soak up the sun, you won't be able to pull yourself away.
Amazingly enough, the area immediately surrounding the beach and the marina experienced very little of the Carr Fire's devastating effects. It was actually one of the few patches of greenery left after the fire swept through this area in August 2018.
Although much of Brandy Creek looks the same, expect to see minor changes in its appearance. Parts of the creek are shallower than before and as a result, the popular swim platform has been removed. Additionally, lifeguards will not be around this summer (although National Park Service staff will be available.)
Boasting plenty of shady spots and picnic areas, Brandy Creek is the perfect destination for a summer beach day. Be sure to stop by the Brandy Creek Beach Store for kayak and paddle board rentals, as well!
On a hot summer day, nothing feels better than the creek's cool waters. You could spend hours swimming and taking in the gorgeous scenery. It just goes to show that Mother Nature is capable of incredible things, including an excellent recovery.
Brandy Creek is just one of numerous destinations in Whiskeytown National Recreation Area that have opened up once again for your enjoyment. Be sure to check out East Beach, Whiskey Creek, Oak Bottom, and the numerous trails in the southeast portion of the park that are available once again for public use. It's looking to be a spectacular summer!
