At first, the idea of having a close encounter with a living, breathing shark sounds downright terrifying. After all, sharks are one of the most feared creatures on the planet (thanks a lot, Jaws !) But what if we told you it’s possible to view these amazing animals up close in a completely safe and monitored environment? Wouldn’t you be slightly intrigued? Well, we’d like to inform you that you can swim with sharks and live to tell the tale when you embark on an experience with Great White Adventures. This company is bringing you a once-in-a-lifetime chance to swim with some of the ocean’s most fascinating animals, and it’s an opportunity you don’t want to miss.
Get up close and personal with the ocean's top predator when you try out this unique experience brought to you by Great White Adventures. This company is making it possible for you to cross "swimming with sharks" off your bucket list with an extraordinary adventure you won't forget.
Great White Adventures actually hosts two shark cage diving experiences in two different destinations. The Isla Guadalupe experience departs from San Diego and the Farallon Islands experience departs from Berkeley. Each experience is unique in its own way, but they are both equally memorable.
The Farallon Islands experience is the more popular of the two among casual adventurers since no scuba certification is necessary to take part in it. The one-day, all-inclusive excursion is offered from September through November.
The Farallon Islands are located inside the San Francisco city limits, approximately 30 miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge. This means that San Francisco is the only major city in the world that hosts a population of white sharks, and you can see them for yourself.
White sharks are considered migratory animals and they usually begin arriving at the islands around July. From August through January, the sharks hunt along the Northern California coastline before migrating back out into the vast expanses of the Pacific Ocean.
During the experience, you'll board the AKULA—a specially modified vessel that is designed to provide a safe and stable atmosphere for shark diving. Once the boat arrives and anchors at the island, you'll trade off with other divers to enter the cage in 60-minute intervals.
In the cage, you'll be provided with the perfect view of sharks passing right before your eyes! It's truly a spectacular experience unlike any other. The sharks at Farallon Islands are notably large, and seeing them in person is breathtaking in every sense of the word.
Great White Adventures provides everything you could need for a day you'll remember for the rest of your life. Gear, go-pro cameras, food, and beverages are all offered during this all-day experience. All you have to do is show up, and prepare for the adventure of a lifetime.
