If you’ve ever had the pleasure of driving down a Northern California road and spotting a vibrant field of sunflowers along the way, then you know exactly just what a magical sight it is. The annual sunflower bloom that takes place every summer is definitely a sight that’s worth going out of your way for, so pack up your camera and hit the road. The sunflower fields are currently in bloom and you don’t want to miss out on this extraordinary sight!
Nothing says summer is here more than stumbling across a glorious sunflower field during your Northern California travels. You've probably seen pictures of them on your social feed, but photos don't even come close to seeing them firsthand!
There are quite a few sunflower fields throughout Northern California, especially in Yolo County. The towns of Woodland, Dixon, and Winters are all popular places for sunflower seekers, but finding the perfect field can still take some patience.
Farms like Muller Ranch in Woodland and Pedrick Produce in Dixon are known for their radiant fields of sunflowers, but be careful. These farms are private property and you must receive permission from the owners if you'd like to visit them.
Otherwise, you can always park along the road and view the fields from there. It's not like you can miss them! There are some great spots along both Interstate 5 and Highway 80 that offer unparalleled views of the endless rows of bright yellow sunflowers.
Summer is the best time to see the sunflower bloom but timing your visit to one of these fields can still be tricky. June tends to be too early to see the sunflowers, and they can be completely dried out by August. July is typically when the flowers are at their best, but it's all up to the season and its particular weather conditions.
Regardless, making the effort to get out there and see the sunflowers in bloom definitely pays off. After all, there are few things as cheerful as the sight of thousands of bright and radiant sunflowers in front of you. Be sure to bring your camera!
Seeking out one of Yolo County's sunflower fields is a tradition for many nature-loving Californians, and you'll want to be sure to take part in it this year. Start planning a road trip to one of these fields soon, while summer's just getting started!
