When it comes to charming small towns in Northern California, there are many that are worthy of a visit. But, tucked away in Del Norte County and just 20 miles south of the Oregon-California state line is one that you may never want to leave — Crescent City, California. This beautiful town in Northern California is located right along the shore and is home to countless activities, attractions, and natural wonders. While you could easily spend forever exploring this small town in Northern California, at least settle for a weekend and see all that this charming destination has to offer.
Crescent City, California is one destination where you’ll fall in love the minute you arrive. This town is named after its crescent shore just south of town and is home to approximately 6,700 individuals.
Of course, during a weekend visit to this town, you'll want to spend some time at the beach. With several options like Pebble Beach, Crescent Beach, Enderts Beach, and South Beach, there are plenty of areas where you can dig your toes into the sand.
But, the beaches aren’t the only beautiful thing found along the coast in Crescent City. This small town is home to two of California’s most northernmost lighthouses — Battery Point Lighthouse and St. George Reef Lighthouse.
Battery Point Lighthouse (pictured above) sits on a tiny island that overlooks the town's harbor. It was built in 1856 and is still active today. You can take a tour of the lighthouse and visit its museum during your visit.
Just a few miles northeast of Crescent City, you can explore the breathtaking Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, an absolute must-visit destination for nature lovers.
Hike in this state park, take a drive on Howland Hill Road, or just admire the incredible towering trees during your visit. Plus, if you want to spend even more time outdoors, the campground in this state park is the perfect destination.
While there is so much to do outdoors during a weekend visit to Crescent City, there is also plenty in town as well. Visit some of the downtown shops, museums, and restaurants.
