Were you aware that America’s largest traveling observation wheel is currently located right here in Northern California? Here until 2025, this traveling attraction is definitely one that’s worth checking out. The massive rotating wheel serves as the perfect vantage point for taking in views of Golden Gate Park and all of San Francisco. Pack a picnic, head to the park, and make a day of riding this wheel for an awesome outing in The City!
Standing 150-feet tall, the SkyStar Wheel provides unparalleled views that stretch from downtown San Francisco to the Pacific Ocean. As the largest traveling observation wheel in America, riding this attraction makes for quite an experience.
The SkyStar Wheel towers 15 stories above Golden Gate Park. Before it came here, the SkyStar was previously installed in Louisville, Kentucky; Norfolk, Virginia; and Cincinnati, Ohio.
The SkyStar was installed in 2020 as part of Golden Gate Park's 150th anniversary celebrations. The installation was extra special since this is the first time an observation wheel like this has operated in San Francisco since the Midwinter International Exposition of 1894 was held in Golden Gate Park - pretty neat!
Consisting of 35 gondolas that can hold up to six people each, the ride is a fun activity that's a delight for all. It's ADA accessible and allows for wheelchair access, as well. The ride itself is 12 minutes of breathtaking views from start to finish.
SkyStar is open Monday through Friday from noon to 10:00 pm, and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. You'll find it in Golden Gate Park, right between the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences at 1 Bowl Drive.
Tickets can be purchased online . General admission is $18, or $12 for seniors and children, and are sold for one-hour time windows.
The SkyStar Wheel will be in San Francisco until March 2025. Plan to ride this massive observation wheel several times between now and then! Learn more by visiting the SkyStar Wheel website .
