It’s what dreams are made of…that one delectable dish that permeates your gourmet thoughts, makes your mouth water at just the mention of it, and gives you the sweats – in a good way, of course! Seafood aficionados far and wide have experienced this sort of gastronomic nirvana at Scoma’s Sausalito in Northern California where the Lazy Cioppino completely captures the soul.
But first, a little bit of history.
The first Scoma’s location (which still exists today) is in San Francisco’s Fisherman’s Wharf District, an enterprise originally founded as a coffee shop that also served seafood and sandwiches, by the Sicilian Scoma family in 1965. The expansion into Sausalito took place in 1969.
Still family-owned, Scoma's Sausalito is a Bay Area favorite.
The history and Victorian-style architecture here have earned Scoma’s Sausalito a listing on the National Register of Historic Buildings.
The setting along the waterfront in the tiny Sausalito enclave offers jaw-dropping views of San Francisco in the distance, as well as nearby Tiburon and Angel Island.
Keeping to the family’s Sicilian roots, this beautiful, crimson-hued fisherman’s stew is loaded with the freshest calamari, crab, fish, mussels, prawns, and clams.
Thick crusty garlic bread gently rests on the rim of the sumptuous bowl, offering an extra "spoon" to scoop up the delectable morsels. Or dunk it in for a sponge-like tastebud-tempting treat.
Scoma’s Sausalito has been noted by numerous epicurean and A-List publications as one of the most romantic restaurants in the San Francisco Bay area.
